Veterans Legacy Program On Demand: The Soldier's Experience

The Veterans Legacy Program provides teachers with resources to commemorate US Veterans and Service Members through discovering and sharing their stories. This PD series, which is based on live sessions conducted on Zoom, features lectures by scholars along with expert advice for teaching these topics from the Gilder Lehrman Institute’s master teachers. Topics covered include the experiences of Revolutionary War soldiers; Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War and the years following; African American soldiers in the Civil War, WWII, and the Vietnam War; and army nurses during the Vietnam War. This is a free program.

COURSE CONTENT:

• Five lectures with various scholars of American history

• Two pedagogy sessions with Master Teachers Gena Oppenheim and Nathan McAlister

• A certificate of completion for seven hours of professional development

• A video compilation of National Cemetery virtual tours
